Google has revealed that it has received an avalanche of 75,000 job applications in the past week, after announcing that it would be looking to recruit another 6,000 staff.

The figure beats Google’s previous record, in 2007, of receiving 65,000 applications in a week.

Google have made it plain they want to expand their service base and need new staff to cope with this.

Key areas of expansion are especially based around mobile support, not least applications, advertising, and local mobile services and offers.

Alan Eustace, senior VP of engineering and research, last week posted on his blog. “We’re looking for top talent.

“We’ll hire as many smart, creative people as we can to tackle some of the toughest challenges in computer science: like building a web-based operating system from scratch, instantly searching an index of more than 100m gigabytes and even developing cars that drive themselves.”
